To date, the Pakuma K8 School project has the highest CHPS point total of any school in the San Bernardino City Unified School District. The design focused on increased energy performance through the use of high SEER rated mechanical units, direct-indirect classroom lighting with high performance controls and increased insulation values at the envelope. The project will also be commissioned. Daylighting in each classroom increases energy performance, and will contribute to the quality of the learning spaces. Low-emitting materials, acoustic treatment and indoor air quality measures were also included to enhance the indoor learning environments. The overall design made smart use of common building materials and achieved more than 40 points without adding expensive materials or systems.
