Western Science Center

ABOUT

The Western Science Center is a LEED Platinum museum located near Diamond Valley Lake in Hemet, CA. The Center is home to a large collection of the Native American artifacts and Ice Age Fossils that were unearthed during the Diamond Valley Lake excavation. The 33,000 sq. ft. center is also home to the Western Center Academy (WCA). The Academy is a Hemet Unified School District sponsored charter school serving students in Southwest Riverside County. WCA currently accommodates grades 6, 7, and 8. PJHM Architects, Inc. has been retained to provide Master Planning, adding educational facilities for grades 9-12. Three buildings have been planned and represented by 3D modeling. The most significant addition is a fourteen, crescent shaped classroom building located between the parking lot and the existing WSC building complex. The building is low in scale to retain on-coming user views of the beautifully designed facility. The existing metal loggia flanking both sides of the courtyard will be extended concentrically to provide a covered path to the new classrooms. The existing turf area will be expanded to create suitable recreation for students. The proposed complex will dramatically enhance and enclose the existing courtyard space which is used for significant and special gatherings.
